A Journey of Support: How Kim Helped One Mom Empower Her 4th Grader with Special Needs
My daughter has Down Syndrome. In second grade, she was making no progress in school. She was being treated poorly and being disciplined for developmentally appropriate behaviors. My daughter was stressed and would cry every day. At the end of second grade, I decided that I had no choice but to keep her home and homeschool. We began to make steady progress toward reading, but I did not know what to do to fulfill the 3rd grade state testing requirement. I met Kim in May, and Kim said that she could provide support. She evaluated my daughter as an alternative to the state test, and we submitted the necessary paperwork for state compliance. Now Kim is tutoring my 4th grader, and she is coaching me, so I can more effectively teach my daughter at home. We are now seeing exceptional growth. Not long ago, my daughter was painstakingly sounding out every word, but now she is fluent as an early reader. Every day, she is becoming a more competent reader, and I am confident that she will catch up to her peers in no time. I believe that I could even put her back in school if we choose to do so. I am so grateful for Kim. She came along right when we needed her.
